Trivandrum is the nearest big city to Kovalam. Animal rescue Kerala had sterilised hundreds of dogs on the main by-way to Trivandrum Airport, at the Airport and beyond. These dogs were all killed by the Corporation along with many thousands more. Dogs are being caught and killed daily with illegal poisons which cause a slow and very painful death. This is totally illegal by Indian law!
The Corporation were taken to court by a Trivandrum citizen as a couple of her dogs had been killed by the Corporation dog-catchers. When the case finally came to court in September 2007 the Corporation stated in court that they were doing the animal birth control programme (ABC) and so the case was thrown out of court.
ARK has proof that the Corporation are not doing the programme but is killing daily instead so has a case of contempt against the Corporation , which came to court a few weeks ago. The Corporation stated again that they were doing the ABC (which is obligatory for local authorities to do) and were given 10 days to give proof to the court and swear an affidavit to that effect. They did not answer.
It has since gone back to court and they submitted that "the fault is not on
the part of the corporation and that it is the govt and the local authority that
work jointly in implemention the a b c rules. it was further submitted that the
two vet doctors were not available and it was only recently that they were made
available and hence without delay the rules will continue to be implemented."
They are given 10 days to put this in writing!

This is so cool! It’s amazing how we have come far enough in society to see the real meaning of this animal. Before it would have been shot and that would have been it. Things have changed so much today.
ReplyDeleteKilling of dogs in violation of rules is highly condemnable. God has created a beautiful kerala but human beings have made it a place where even the devil will be ashmed to visit. Governmental agencies themselves are disobeying law of the land.God save the poor dogs.
